Hi Peter, welcome to the forum. Glad you and yours enjoyed the book. Yes...you're right, oil is very much the achilles heel of the developed world. It is, I suppose, ironic justice that in a scenario like that the impoverished 3rd world would cope much better.

As for film, well...the film rights have been optioned, and we're waiting to see whether a production deal can be put together. It would be nice to see it made as a British movie, rather than Americanised as these things usually are.

anyway...thanks for making the effort to look me up. It's a friendly community here...some good general chat.

best

Just finished reading 'Last Light' whilst on holiday in the deserts of Africa. Really enjoyed the book and at points couldn't put it down. By the end i was working out how i would get back to the UK should it all kick off!! Odd thing was that in the locations i was in, most of this turmoil wouldn't affect the isolated communities. While the developed world was going nuts, the isolated 3rd world unknowns would probably carry on in their self sufficient way!

Congratulations on a top book + great characters. I have some thoughts on your possible sequel, will post in relevent forum.

My wife has also just finished this book. Would make a great Brit film! Something like 28 days later etc (but you might be bored of hearing that phrase)

Hi Nick, welcome to our little survival bunker on the net. Thanks for the nod on your Myspace page.

I really can't believe how quickly things have gone down hill this year - how far the price of oil has shot up. As I was writing LL, we were approaching $60 a barrel and those on the market that dared predict a $100 barrel sometime in 2008 were being accused of being alarmist. Now look where we are.

Whilst all this is great for book sales....I'd really rather it weren't happening.
Nick Warren Posted - 03 July 2008 : 10:32:43 PM
I did something else to recommend LL, posted a blog on it on my MYSPACE page,

http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=116151387&blogID=408527832

The bit about the French Revolution was referenced in the LL narrative during the service station sequences, but it only seemed fair to mention it as a comparison to today's world. I mean we would see REAL poverty if oil stopped flowing - not the kind of poverty the gutter press say is a child not having a PS3 or the latest celebrity-endorsed trainers.

I'm new to this forum and have been delving into many angles of Peak Oil after reading LAST LIGHT - just go to YouTube and type it into a search - check out 'A Post Oil Man', a comical satire on post-oil survivalism in the form of an animated movie and there's even people denying it as another conspiracy theory invented by the corporations to keep prices high/scare people/burgeon a cottage industry of survivalist kit . . . see what you think!

as long as "Doing a Parm" relates to books and nothing else, then we're safe, but who knows what the future holds, they might replace having a number 2, with it....LOL

I can see that phrase now entering into general use.

One day in the future, people will research the origins of "doing a Parm". Make sure it is well documented.

that's good to here. I'm a little stunned, and wary of how much life is beginning to bear a rsemblance to the book; on the one hand, good for sales...on the other, not good news for any of us.

Thanks for spreading the word Paul.
Fast Paul Posted - 17 June 2008 : 6:24:38 PM
A truely great read Alex and very thought provoking. I have a feeling that as this book is so topical at the moment its going to keep rising up the chart. By the way its on sale all over the Med. Everywhere I went there was LL, in all the shops in Cyprus, Mallorca, mainland spain and southern france. Its certainly getting your name around. (I did a Parm everytime I saw it to who ever would listen!!!)

After a fair bit of touting of this and all Alexs books on the iggulden forum, they are starting to get the hint....here is some feedback on LL

Last Light ranked 1,587 on Amazon as of this post. I'm not sure, but I think that's the highest I've ever charted so far. Yay.
