Posted - 23 June 2008 : 10:28:04 AM Apologies for not being very communicative recently, but I have been hard at work on Fire and Sword and it is now done. First draft is a whopping 235000 words and I have a fair bit of editing to do and then it is off to the editor. After that a well deserved break happens before kicking off with the next Roman book set in Crete. Meanwhile, with the paperback of Centurion out in August that month looks like being very busy. |

Posted - 30 November 2008 : 06:41:39 AM I have finished the first book, loved it. I am 8 chapters into the second one. I just can't put them down. This time of year this is not necessarily a good thing... so many project the wife wants done before the holidays are upon us. Ah well.... |

Posted - 27 October 2008 : 09:43:28 AM It'll be out at about the same time as Total War: Emprie (for those who like a little strategy gaming on their PCs). I'm planning on reading the series then, whilst fighting the various battles on my 'pooter. |

Posted - 14 October 2008 : 2:16:15 PM Yes please tell me, I have Young bloods and The Generals sitting on my book shelf waiting for Fire and Sword so that I can start reading them. I do this sometimes, I did it with Manfredi's Alexander, Igguldens Ceasar and Khan series and one or two other series just so I can read them back to back without waiting for the next one. Am I sad? |

Posted - 08 July 2008 : 10:51:09 PM Alas, the Romans did not get as far as Orlando... OR DID THEY? Coming soon, A Bird in the Hand is worth Two Eagles in Bushland, or something. |

Posted - 28 June 2008 : 10:59:40 AM Marcus Aurelius sent an embassy to China, and I seem to remember so did Antoninus Pius (a bit earlier). There is evidence of diplomatic contact between China and Rome in the days of the Republic, so it is not beyond imagination to have Macro and Cato go there....although the trip there and back would take a few years.

Simon, are you going to be doing the same thing as you did with Eagle in the Sand/Centurion??? Going out to see the sites, digging up some of the history etc.

Posted - 24 June 2008 : 10:20:20 AM I suggest we have a fact finding mission to Crete to inform ourselves of the setting of Simon's new Eagle novel.
Now, where did I put my suitcase that I packed for Cyprus? The weather is the same, isn't it?

Posted - 23 June 2008 : 4:48:28 PM Excellent! I'm really looking forward to Fire & Sword. It seems ages since I read the last installment.
And Macro & Cato are off to Crete! Having established a precedence for writing into the story some religious connection (Mary & Co in Eagle in the Sands), maybe you will with connect St Paul in Crete (around 45AD).
Not that I am religious, of course.

Posted - 23 June 2008 : 10:55:08 AM Well done mate, I know it's been a hard slog, but I bet it's a good feeling to finally write the end, (even if it's not the real end yet... )
Looking forward to reading it.
