I recently finished October Skies a couple of weeks ago and that finished off my Alex Scarrow three in a row.
I think sadly as a nation we complain too much and don't give praise where it is due.
So I'd like to say thank you very much for the entertainment over the last couple of months.
If I had to put the books I read in order of preference, I would say;
Last Light
Thousand Suns
October Skies
A friend from an internet forum suggested "Last Light" and as I had previously read "Cell" and "The Road" I thought another end of the world type book would be right up my street. Indeed it was.
But I what found so horrifying was that we seem so close to complete disaster and "Last Light" really highlights how fragile we are.
I thought that it was interesting that the perpetrators behind the organised events was this all empowering body that controlled everything. It sounded a lot like the illuminatus, if you would believe the conspiracy theorists.
It was a gripping read and I'd like to say thank you very much for taking me through it.
For Thousand Suns I found it to be a breathe of fresh on how I look back on remembering the fallen soldiers.
Having played a fair ammount of computer games, it's easy to forget that the German soldiers were just fighting for their country and weren't evil Nazis. I really felt for Max and what he was doing and strange that it may seem, I almost felt like cheering him on. I must have got quite wrapped up with the emotions of the characters.
I haven't read anything like this before, so it was a real surprise and delight.
October Skies had me scratching my head at times. I felt it was overall a good read, but comparing it to the other two books, it just seemed to take a bit longer to get going...if you see what I mean?
I know it was character building, but I really had to force myself to get through the first part. I'm probably just a one off to be honest, and when I felt it started to pick up I did start to enjoy it.
I didn't feel it was as strong as the other two books, but like I said, it's probably just me. I must admit, my general interests focused more on the previous books.
But this hasn't stopped me recommending the book.
Once again, thank you very much for the three great reads.

Strange...I found October Skies the most gripping of Alex's novels. Maybe its all about the sequence one reads the books in.
"To be clear-headed rather than confused; lucid rather than obscure; rational rather than otherwise; and to be neither more, nor less, sure of things than is justifiable by argument or evidence. That is worth trying for."

Hi abcd, thanks for taking the time to look me up. It's always deeply gratifying to know the ball's gone into the back of the net for someone.
You may or may not know I'm busy writing a sequel to Last Light. Quite dark and grisly stuff happening to the Sutherland family right now(I really need to start writing some happy clappy stuff). You know, it's funny how events in the news, start to seep into whatever you're writing eg; the recession/crash, that Kerchner shooting, knife crime etc etc. Some of it I'd probably edit out, some I'd keep...but it's almost impossible to not act like a sponge and soak all these things up, only to find it appearing all over the book you're working on.
