I recieved the proof copy of my first novel. Think of that as a sort of limited 'dry run' of the book...only a dozen or so copies. Then basically my editor, and I, both go through the book and check for errors, print cock-ups etc.

It's a real buzz hefting the weighty tome in one hand, seeing the nice shiney cover. Anyway, thought I'd share that with you.

Hey Alex,

Everyones said so i'd thought i'd add my request, i'd love to proof read it also...
Sounds like it's going to be a bloody good read, may 6th cannot come quickly enough. I've seen some of Simons proofs that the publishers give out (benefits of liking a damn good read and working for a certain Norwich Dept Store) even got a personalised proof copy from Simon....

May 6th sounds like the perfect date to release the book. I will have to read it during the World Cup though, something to help take my mind off following England's games.

Alex
you will be happy (maybe) to hear that some one (not me) sold a proof copy of this book for £19.80 (in postage) on ebay this week. you have sold your fist book online...unfortunatly...its a proof and you get bob all out of it!!

Not sure who is silly enough to sell their copy but some people are just mercenary with review and proof copies!!

Hi,

There's another copy appeared on ebay, called "A Thousand Sums" has Alex branched out into advanced maths and not told us???
I always thought the selling of proofs was not allowed,am i right??
I know i wouldn't as sometimes they can be worth more than a first edition (not often i'm sure, but hey i can live in hope my Eagle signed proof will be worth something in the future for my kids)

Andy your not supposed to sell them ever....but way after the book release i dont think is an issue, but i think its very wrong to sell them before the author release date!!
you are sent these books to review etc for free with the trust to not sell them...some people unfortunatly take the P!!

I have all of Simons in Proof format (except Under the eagle)...would love to get that one!!

Yeah i agree with you, it's a trust thing between publisher and book shop/dealer etc etc. pity there is nothing that can be done agaist the seller sort of a coded copy so the seller never receives any more proofs, that might stop it.

I'm bidding for the "Thousand _Sums_" proof with Alex' approval, and I'd take it kindly if you fellow enthusiasts wouldn't bid me up! If I get it I'll be telling him anything about it that might identify the culprit

Cheers

I do its a collector i know! He has already pre ordered a signed copy of the book from me! and mentioned this when he requested the book from my web site!!

I still think selling a review copy is wrong...it really should wait until after the book is released...its not polite of fair on the author.

grrrrr. Won't see a bloody penny for these review book auctions. There's my seven little nippers all without shoes this winter to think about. And then there's poor tiny Tim, alas he'll not see another Christmas unless the good Lord sees fit to send a little favour our way.

Oh well, maybe you can do me a favour and try to discourage him. I'll bet he isn't planning to give Alex any details he finds to identify the seller!

Robin, John.....you're warming this weary writer's heart. Tiny Tim SHALL have roast goose this xmas. I've sent, Tom Tiddlyompom, the urchin who lives in the crumbly, grimey street next to ours, down to Mr Barnaby Noodletit's the Butcher, to order our prize Christmas bird.

Hi guys,
Dont know if you've looked but the seller of the Alex's Proof is selling loads of UK Proofs and has been for ages, from the look of it.
Real pity really, all the hard work the authors out in for some egit to cash in on it.
Hey Alex, is it worth talking toyou Publisher??? maybe a an email from them might shock him into rethinking is dastardly schemes. or at aleast you might find out who he is and stop sending proofs to him.

He only accepts personal cheques so you could always copy The Darkness and buy the book get his address and send the heavys round ;-) What would Macro and boys do eh?????

And besides i'm sure that Tiny Tim will feel better know his XBox360 will be safe knowing scoundrels like this will be sorted out.
