To be fair Amazon ratings are terribly suseptible (sp?) to fluctuations based on tiny numbers of sales. Arguably my rating jump could be equally affected by other books ranked above me NOT selling, as it is by the number of books I've sold.
It's encouraging...but not that reliable. Probably a more scientific record, would be how many people per hundred I spot reading the trade paperback on the beach this Summer ;-) |

| Yes. WH SMiths Travel have an exclusive run of the trade paperback format in their airport shops. So I'm hoping that's doing a nice trade. And with the totally crap weather we're having, it'll probably mean more peeps heading abroad (as indeed I will in August) for a week or two of sun. |

Nowhere special...cheapy holiday to Majorca.
As for Amazon, the ranking is found in the Product Details section, just below the 'Average customer review' stars |

I avoid Mallorca between June - September. Too many foreigners.
Alex, if you are in Palma, check out Gran Cafe Cappuccino on Calle San Miguel (the main shopping street off the Plaza Mayor nearer the Calle Olmos (Oms in Mallorquin) end) if you haven't already been there. It's a super cafe in a 18th century small palace; great for people watching & my favourite place.
And for the best hot chocolate (the thich Spanish style) , check out the oldest chocolateria in Mallorca (dates to 1700), C'an Joan de Saigo. Tourists never find it as its in a back street (Calle Can Sanc) in the old town very near the Plaza Mayor.

WHS in Oldham has copies, but Ottakars has not got it in yet. {Ottakars has just been bought out by HMV - bang goes another good book shop!}

Not getting much time to visit here of late, or read for that matter, but I finished A Thousand Suns. Great book Alex, deserves to sell really well :)

Mark,
thanks. If you can...please throw a review up on Amazon, if you can find the time. It really does make a difference to sales when enough genuine reviews (as opposed to author-faked bogus reviews) build up.
cheers |

Alex, managed to put a quick review up. Hopefully it should appear in a day or two.
"A Thousand Suns is a real page turner. The flow of the book is very smooth as it switches between the modern day and the last days of the thrid Reich. The author breathes life into the characters from both era's (those that really lived and those he invented) as well as giving you a real sense of history from the German perspective. A growing curiosity and immersion in the book kept me hooked to the very last page and never disappointed. I could say a lot more about what I really liked about this book but I don't want to spoil the ride for those yet to read it. Pick it up, you won't regret it." |

Unfortunately not. I get into the office around 7.30am most mornings to beat the traffic.
The only time I really work from home is when my boiler leaks thruogh the ceiling like it did on Monday <g>. |

| Aye companies can be a real pain about laptops. I've got one but I have to set a good example to my staff, otherwise they'd all be working from home for one reason or another ;) |

The good thing is that at first game time I’m home already. The bad is that by then I’m alone with the two younger ones and is dinner time to them, one at the time… Half hour later things are better, but not to the beginning of the game.
