| God that looks good. 'Hitchhikers meets Firefly?' sounds like the sort of thing I'd go for. Is it the sort of Joss Whedon sort of wise-ass funny? Or Adams styled funny? Is it funny? It would be good to read a sample. Would you post a short chunk of it on the forum? |

yeah Al just needs to find a publisher who want that sort of book.
We're all surprised it hasnt been taken up on, but we're all hopeful that it will and it can be unleashed onto the world....

Im not up on publishing so please forgive this question - but surely when u get a publisher dont they release all the books you write? or do they pick and choose!!

If only it was as simple as that, I've not done it, but basically the publisher, chooses if they feel the book warrents publication.
it's upto the authors agent to keep plugging at it.
I think it's down to who reads it at the publisher and if they like it it gets printed. if they dont like it the it doesn't.
It's a bummer but i think that basically how it works.

My current publisher (Orion) are building me up as a thriller writer, therefore, they don't want to confuse the 'brand' by also publishing anything by me outside of this genre. Which means EQ needs to probably go with someone else, and I might use a variant on my name, like Iain Banks does for his scifi stuff.
That said, EQ had been particularly problematic as it is very much a cross-genre book, it's scifi, but also Young Adult, and also vaguely chick-lit, which has meant a lot of enthusiasm from various editors, but none sure enough how to market the book to buy the rights.
It's been through a 3rd rewrite, with me pushing it very firmly towards the Young Adult market, and currently out once more for consideration. So...I've got my fingers crossed. |
