I heard on the radio that only 29% of the population trusts anyone. What a terrible indictment. I think this is shocking: personally I give people my trust by default.

Strangely though, the only people who have betrayed my trust have been family and friends. Possibly because they have had more opportunities, or maybe it's considered OK to take liberties with someone you're close to.

It depends what you trust people with. I take people for their word at face value...it doesn't mean I trust them implicitly, but if its nothing important, then there isn't a problem if it goes wrong. Thinking about it, like Mike, the only people who have betrayed my trust too have been family and friends; and the people who have restored my faith in human kindness have been complete strangers.

I agree with Anksy. Some people you know will probably turn up late when they say they won't and some people do.

It's their charcter - You can equally trust someone to do something negative as positive.

It's when they act out of character that trust becomes an issue.
