Can anyone recall the last truly great building to be built? (The Gaudi's not finished yet!)
Some cathedrals took 200 years to build - that was the planning cycle. Nowadays, I can't see anyone building such masterpieces any longer, not when organisations have to report the next quarter's profit and loss.
How long did the Colisseum (sp?) take to build? Or the Parthenon? Or the Pyramids?
What a shame. It seems that architecture, like so many other fields, is stagnant or going backwards.
