You're gonna hate me Simon, but I just have to bring this one up!
I was just reading on Wikipedia about decimation (as we all have, I'm sure!) and it states that the practice was last used during the time of Augustus, around 20BC. That's about 60 years before the Eagles books are set. Yet one of the books (the Eagle's Prey?) clearly describes it "nearly" being performed.
Now I know this is not a major issue; after all, who cares? I just wanted to know 2 things:
1) Simon, did you already know this when you wrote it and just decided to ignore it? 2) Does anyone else know of any other historical inaccuracies in the series?
I told you that you'd hate me for this. Am I right?!
So when the centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they feared greatly, saying, “Truly this was the Son of God!”

That's a fair point. Hey Simon, maybe you should start having the books published in Latin!

The last recorded Decimation was used under Diocletian. He ordered two decimations of the Theban Legion in 286CE.
It wasn't always decimation. Sometimes only the twentieth man was punished (vicesimatio) or the hundredth (centesimatio).

Lets face the fact s though... we do not have EVERY record of those times do we. There are whopping great big holes in the histories that survive.
Moriarty: I see that ten years in Britain have not changed your Imperial Roman outlook, Caesar. Caesar (G): True, Moriartus, always a Roman eye. Moriarty: Will you take wine? Caesar: No thanks, I think I'll have a half of mild and a packet of crisps.
