To honour one of our greatest members (grin), Peter Croft, I`ve started this thread.
All you have to do is present an arguement from the "Peter Croft" angle.
Pick any subject, the more ridiculous the better, and put forward an arguement that is indefensible, just like the great man himself can! (if he felt like it!)
I`ll start with this...
Pay Rise For All Politicians.

All MPs are well overdue a pay rise IMO. They work tirelessly on our behalf 24 hrs a day, often with no perks, financial or otherwise, for the benefit of the country with no thought for themselves.
They often have to fly off abroad to some far flung corner of the world, putting up with five star hotels and hot sandy beaches, with not so much as a moan or wimper.
They have to put up with whingeing constituants who moan about any and everything!
God bless our MPs and give them a payrise, infact we should double or treble their salaries!!!

as there is no peter i will fill in for now...there is no god he is a delusion of the masses brought on by supersticion, therfore no one will actual be able to bless the MP's so no pay rise will occur...that and they are all self serving scum!!

What about that very sensible chap Rowan Williams, he`s the Archbishop of Canterbury and everything he says is true. He says there is a God so therefore your arguement is unfounded. On the US dollar it states "In God we trust" which must, therefore, again be proof of his existance.
Payrise for MP`s is back on! Yippee......(That really hurt to write!!)

Our MPs deserve a pay rise. What you have to bear in mind is that their employment status is insecure - no more than 4 years guaranteed at a time. They have to put on hold career plans, business opportunities in order to serve our country, careers that may well not be retrievable after their tenure of office. Therefore, it's not unreasonable for them to be rewarded generously whilst in office, in order to pay for this kind of sacrifice.
Let's not also forget the long hours, the evenings, the weekends. You and I clock off at 5pm, these guys work quite often late into the night.
Finally, I put the argument that they experience very high stress levels during the working hours, stress levels that can lead to health and mental problems - the higher renumeration is a form of hazard compensation as much as anything else.
I thoroughly commend the idea that politicians should be given a pay rise...as muich as we can possibly afford to keep these magnificent, selfless, community-minded...heroes...at work. |

There is also the constant pressure from the press and public, scrutinizing every little decision made. The public voted these officials into office, as they knew that these men and women would work tirelessly on the behalf of their constituents and the country as a whole. If they agree to a change in EU powers, or to begin a war without the full legal backing of the world powers, it is because they have more knowledge of the intricate and delicate factors at work than the public.

OK, since no-one else is arguing against the proposition that MPS deserve a pay rise then I will.
The official response from Government to requests for more pay for the Police and other essential services is that there is no shortage of applicants so the pay must be correct as it it. They haven't yet said that pay is too high so should be reduced until the number of applicants is equal to the number of vacancies, but they will come up with that argument in the end. Since they believe so strongly that a surplus of applicants for essential jobs outside Parliament means that the pay offered is not too low, the same must be true of their own pay: there are multiple applicans for election in every Parliamentary seat, all volunteering with no form of compulsion applied to them, and therefore their current pay level must be either correct or too high. I therefore counter-propose that the pay and expenses of MPs and Ministers should be not be increased but instead reduced until there is only one candidate for each seat.

I completely agree that MPs pay should be increased. However, In addition, I suggest that deductions should be made to MPs pay for anticipated abuses of expenditure (e.g. employing family members, generous hospitality & transportation payments etc).
Let me see......mmmmmm....that takes it down to £20k/year. Sounds about right.
As for God existing, let me tell you that he spoke to me in St Peter's Basilica when I was in Rome, and I'm convinced.
BTW, did you know that St Peter's bones (allegedly) are kept in a tupperware box stuck in a hole in a Roman wall beneath the main altar? I kid you not, I saw it.

It is recognised anywhere around the world that todays products are inferior in every conceivieable form from products produced years ago. Your Bettaware stuff is thinner softer and basically inferior in every way to Tupperware. As for sanitory issues, its nothing that a good disinfectant could`nt sort out!
