This is a genuine opportunity.
The Tories in Chester have just deselected their candidate. The Labour majority over him was 812 at the last election and Chester is almost certain to be Tory at the next election. Basically, whoever is the next Tory candidate will be the next MP.
Now here's the way in. The local party have said that they will select the new candidate from June onwards. But there are only about 200 people IN the local party. So if we could sign up about 40 or 50 people, I reckon we'd have enough to swing it. We may need considerably less than this. The only rules are: 1. You must be a member of the Chester conservative association to vote on the next candidate. 2. You must be a member for three months before the selection.
You don't even have to live in Chester!
I'm ruling myself out. But if we could get enough people together we could actually have a Scarrowag in parliament - now how cool is that?
So. Does anyone want to be an MP? It's there for the taking.

It doesn't appeal to me either. The idea of spending 14 hours a day being herded round by Whips doesn't appeal. Surprising how easy it is for people to get into parliament though. Probably accounts for there being so many duffers in there.
Come on - there must be one person here who fancies having a go?

| Excellent idea that Deva! I nominate Simon. He's a bloody good debater, very quick on his feet. I'll be his campaign manager...no, lemmethink...his media consultant. |

| Ah thing is you don't have to. You'd have your cushy place in London...maybe once a year put in an appearance for your constituents at your 'surgery'....nod a bit, stroke your chin, then back to London |

There's many a true word said in jest. Do you know who the MP was in Chester before the current one?
Gyles Brandreth. Yes, the guy from Countdown with the funny jumpers. I'm not kidding you. He never lived here either. Turned up for the odd photocall and that's about it.
So, does Simon want me to sort out the nomination papers? Just say the word and I'll get right on the case.

No way I'd take a pay cut to sit on my arse polishing green benches and attending rubber-chicken events. More of a kingmaker if anything.

Wow! Maybe we should start plotting....er planning the campaign when we get together on the 10th Feb?
Shouldn't we all have to sign up for the Conservative Club so we can vot Simon in?

First thing is for Simon to become a member of Chester Association.
I'll get an application form to him in the post. (I know Alex's address, I'll post it there). Then he'll have to prepare a political CV - I can help with this. Then it'll be how Simon performs before the selection committee (I can help with this too).
OK, could be a lot of fun....

Does this mean bring the "senate" rules into play, like, if one member is not liked he can be posted to the "outlands" like ..........Scotland?

And the French send theirs to Brussels, where they can make rules that the French ignore and only the British obey.
