Nice interview Simon not sure I agree with everything you say though. The American Revolution happened before the French one and some would say it impacted France not visa versa. And the Americans sided with France against the UK in the war of 1812 in an attempts (failed) to grab Canada. As for the first world war you could say the 7yrs was was the first one but thats another debate for another time.
My main point is that both charachters you have chosen had very little to do with the Revlutionary war and its battles. Apart from the 93 Flanders campaign Wellers was not around again until 1807 while Boney ended up taking command of an army only under the Directory.

Hi Delayer, The influence of the French Revolution is wider than many appreciate. Indeed some historians still think it's a bit to early to draw any conclusions about its significance. Revolutionary ideas were there in the writings of the enlightenment and certainly filtered over the pond before the revolution began. Also, the US would be a fraction of its current size if the French had not sold them the Louisiana territories. Now, you could get pedantic about the precise duration of the French Revolution, but I'd argue that its roots can be seen before the meeting of the estates general, and that the 'Napoleonic' wars was an iteration of the same process. I'm not sure about the 7 years war. I think that Rev/Nap wars were on a much larger scale and came far closer to the modern notion of total war, out of which the phrase First World War emerged. |

| 'This...is the real first world war' I think is a great soundbite and should be, in some form, on the covers of this series. |

When are you going to have a meeting to meet you in Williamsburg Virgina. The revolution series is fantastic. As good as the Nelson & Lady Emma trilology by Donachie. Really great writing and research.
