Moriarty: I see that ten years in Britain have not changed your Imperial Roman outlook, Caesar.
Caesar (G): True, Moriartus, always a Roman eye.
Moriarty: Will you take wine?
Caesar: No thanks, I think I'll have a half of mild and a packet of crisps.

I am reading "De Niro a Biography" by John Baxter. Well, I was. After the first few chapters I have chosen to go no further in this poor excuse for a book. The author Baxter makes it clear from the very beggining that he strongly dislikes De Niro and feels he's wasted his talents.

He considers his last good performance to be in the film "Taxi Driver" (1976) therefore leaving out "The Deer Hunter" (1978), "Raging Bull" (1980), "The King of Comedy" (1983), "Midnight Run" (1987), "Awakenings" and "GoodFellas" (1990) and obviously, many more.

Baxter's a really poor writer and gets some of his facts wrong (he claims Awakenings was released in 1987, when it was released in 1990). This bio is unauthorized and as a result has nothing worthwhile to say; I strongly advice anyone who is considering buying this book to wait for an authorized biography in the future.

Just started reading harry Potter and the half-blood prince. I know I'm 3 years late, but I don't care!

So when the centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they feared greatly, saying, “Truly this was the Son of God!”

Some great ones on here - Fast Paul, you can't go wrong with David Gemmell. He really was "the great man."

King of Ithaca and The Gates of Troy are on my to read list, but at the moment I'm reading "Pillars of Rome" by Jack Ludlow which is a good, entertaining read.

Cantius, hope you enjoy Gladiatrix, man.

Cheers

I'm reading Henry Kissinger's "Diplomacy". Very well written, easy to read analysis of the evolution of european diplomacy from medieval times to the current day (as seen through his eyes).

I'm also reading Steve Berry's "The Venetian Betrayal". It's a follow on from "The Alexandria Link" about a retired-CIA type turned antique bookseller (Cotton Malone). I've read Steve Berry from his very first novel back in 2003 (The Amber Room) and he has really progressed. Its a real page turner.

I started reading 'The Great Gatsby' this morning and I'm already over 100 pages through. It's a definite page turner and an absolute classic!
Afterwards I'm gonna read Gladiatrix and am looking forward to it

James Rollins is AWESOME - you should check out his earlier books like EXCAVATION and DEEP FATHOM which I could only order from the States. His books are like Clive Cussler's earlier work meets the fast pacing of Matthew Reilly with the thoughtfulness and intricate plotting of Dan Brown. And if you like tongue-in-cheek action with a scif-fi/archaelogical twist, that is all there as well! His recent novels like BLACK ORDER and JUDAS STRAIN center around a group in DARPA called Sigma Force who are searching for the truth behind mysterious occurrances and links to past history and basically try to save the world . . . they're brilliant beach and plane reads!!

Haven't read that one, even seen that on the shelves yet . . . thanks for the tip!! I was in my local Tesco browsing the books and all I saw was celeb books, and my wife is currently on THE HUNT FOR ATLANTIS by Andy McDermott which is meant to be excellent. Now I see Katie Price(nooooo!!) has jumped on the 'author' bandwagon, number 2 on the book chart??!!

Will have to check out Waterstones or get LAST ORACLE on Amazon methinks.

Bought a book called INFECTED by Scott Sigler yesterday and am going to begin that - its kind of Stephen King meets Michael Crichton meets 28 DAYS LATER by the sounds of it!!

I'm also reading Infected by Scott Sigler. It's pretty snappy. Stephen King meets Greg Bear (read his book BLOOD MUSIC - brilliant). I'm about 1/3 in and getting a bit ho-hum with it, though.
