just got me teeth stuck into Dark Fire, Sansoms second book in the Shardlake series. I loved the first book, a right page turner, and already after 50 pages this is too. Id really reccomend these books, anyone who fancies a great historical/crime read!

Just finished Wolf of the Plains. That was indeed an awesome book. Loved every page of it.
Just bought The Centurion and Lords of the Bow from Tesco (2 for £7) and am now reading Centurian again. Still after reading it twice it's still page turning.
Go tell the spartans, stranger passing by the here, obedient to their laws we lie.
King Xerxes demanded that the Spartans lower their arms, to this Leonidas replied "Molon Labe" Come and get them.

Just finished, to my dismay..... "Bones of the Hills"
Conn has really surpassed himself.... I could all most hear the hordes charging out onto the plains/desert and crashing onto the Arab armies.. I could allmost small death, the buring cities...... yet fell the love, tenderness, hatered, anger that flows through the mongols viens......
The whole series was outstanding, and has brought a complete new insight into how the Mongols lived, loved, fought and died..........
WOW!

Just finished "Republic - The Pillars of Rome" by Jack Ludlow!
I found the book, to be almost a Doc-fiction history........ covering a span of some 40 odd years....... the story covers two main families, how they are bonded together, drift apart yet still stay loyal to each other (to a point), as the story progresses, additional family members are added, taking the story to new heights..... ending with a bit of an Anti-Climax, that is worth while reading...... The eagles burns!

Last few books i read were:
"Azincourt" by Bernard Cornwell - Yet again another great story by him.
also - "Belching out the Devil" by Mark Thomas
Synopsis Coca-Cola and its logo are everywhere. In our homes, our workplaces, and even our schools. It is a company that sponsors the Olympics, backs US presidents and even re-brands Santa Claus. A truly universal product, it has even been served in space. From Istanbul to Mexico City, Mark travels the globe investigating the stories and people Coca-Cola's iconic advertising campaigns don't mention such as: child labourers in the sugar cane fields of El Salvador; Indian workers exposed to toxic chemicals; Colombian union leaders falsely accused of terrorism and jailed alongside the paramilitaries who want to kill them; and, many more. Provocative, funny and stirring, "Belching Out the Devil" investigates the truth behind one of the planet's biggest brands.
About the Author Mark Thomas has worked as a comedian for over twenty years. His activist, campaigning brand of comedy has been a thorn in the side of many politicians and corporations. He is one of a limited number of people to be awarded a UN Global Human Rights Defender Award and has also been awarded a Kurdish National Congress Medal of Honour amongst other citations. His three-year campaign to stop the building of the Ilisu damn in Turkey was ultimately successful and saved 78,000 Kurds from being displaced.
An interesting book, written with a bit of humour. He's also an excellent stand up comedian - if you ever get the chance to see him performing live i'd recommend it.

Right now I'm tossing aside 'The Final Reckoning' by Sam Bourne - tired, cliche'd, wannabee-Dan-Brown pulp. It's the second Sam Bourne book I've been hoodwinked into buying by the coverb blurb. Why do I do that? Why didn't I remember from suffering his last book that he's writing style annoys me? Grrrrr.
Anyway, I'm looking for something new to read now. Any suggestions? |

i quite enjoyed Lost army, although at times you get the feeling the book is not quite right...it is after all a book written by a man, from the perspective of a woman, translated by a woman....im sure that had to lead to some issues!! LOL!!...worth a read though

I'm currently reading Antony Beevor's "The Spanish Civil War". Having read his Stalingrad and Berlin, I'm sure he will do a good job of the telling of this. So far, it is eminently readable and engages one's attention.

Just finished reading " The Artic Event" by Robert Ludlum and James Cobb.
International Threat started 50 years ago, through an abortive strike, that brings both sides togther yet one side hold a 2nd deck of cards and willing to show them........ with a new player coming form "nowhere..." (Capitalism at its best) leading to s show off that enables the major players to sit at the same table, dealing with the past and current situation leading to future..............
I enjoyed the book, has wirting has got better, Robert has written a "lean" book, not much "flowery" discriptions of intrige - just the lean mean fighting machine a of scenaorio...... nightmarish possible!

I'm a big fan of Anthony Beevor. Fall of Berlin was one on my source texts whilst writing A Thousand Suns.
Right now, I'm finishing off the Riverworld series by PJ Farmer (for the umpteenth time) and getting reading to read Giles Milton's book on Roanoke/early Elizabethan colonization of America. Roanoke is a historical story I rather fancy covering in a book or two's time. |

Well, I've been there! And Jamestown, too. Tough place. New plants that may, or may not be edible, new animals, natives, and the crazy rules of religious fanatics, and the rule of the Crown to boot. Glad I wasn't there!

Current book I am reading now is Berthern by Robyn Young. My brother has read all three books but didn't like the last one. So far I've read 100 pages and its pretty good so far. I have all three Troy books by the late great Gemill to read soon.

Yup, Alex, 'Berlin' is my favourite Beevor book, even better than 'Stalingrad'.
