I'm re-reading Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks. Would highly recommend it to anyone.
So when the centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they feared greatly, saying, “Truly this was the Son of God!”

Just read 'Cross' by James Patterson. It was garbage.
Patterson's early novels (Along Came a Spider, Kiss the Girls, When the Wind Blows etc) were great, but he's now churning out up to 10 books a year and the quality has gone seriously downhill.
There will be 27 (not a typo) books coming out in 2008 under the name of James Patterson. Ridiculous.

he does not write most of the books with his name on these days, he works with loads of others, they use his formula of 2 page chapters etc., they make a name with him and then do their own thing afterwards...he must make a nice few pennies out of it...he is best selling author in the world right now.

27 books in 2008 ............. bound to be top quality lol. I read a few of his years ago and enjoyed them, but i read one last year (I forget the name) and thought it was pretty crap. Its doubtful the quality will increase.
I have a feeling i'll be giving all 27 a miss. |

Just finished "Empire of Ivory" by Naomi Novik which was ok and "The Revenge of Captain Paine" by Andrew Pepper which was a good follow up to "The Last Days Of Newgate".
Currently reading "Mondo Enduro" - Austin Vince. and "Fat" by Rob Grant.
Next book is likely to be "The 47th Samurai" by Stephen Hunter. |

Currently rereading my Jim Butcher Harry Dresden books. Light reading and a bit of fun. Also about to read Nemesis the Warlock and also Red Seas (for those who think this sounds familiar think back to 2000AD. LOL)

The last few books i read were "The Guns of El Kebir" by John Wilcox, which i really enjoyed.
"The Rebel Heart" by Martin Stephen - the 4th Henry Gresham book.
"Only Forward" by Michael Marshall Smith. Its the second book of his i've read (the other being One Of us- which is a great read) and i really enjoy his style and humour.
The Last book i read was "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea" by Jules Verne, which while i can appreciate it would have been a great book in its time, i found to be really tedious ............. if you got rid of the long, drawn out descriptions of fish and marine life you would lose at least a third of the book.
Currently reading "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini and i just bought "Lords of the Bow" by Conn Iggulden so it will no doubt be the next one i read. |

I loved that book, FP. IMHO, it was better than the Kite Runner.
I'm just finishing "The God Delusion" and have Centurion to read next. Steve Berry's new book, "The Ventian Betrayal" arrived last week, so that's on the pile. I'm also going to re-read Ken Follett's "Pillars of the Earth" (which I read ten years ago!) before I read his new book "World without End".

Steve Berry is getting better, isn't he, Parm? Tighter story lines and more beleivable characters. I do like Cotton Malone.

Well...right at the minute i'm trying to re-read most/all of the scarrow books, but also i've buried myself into the Sharp series and they are all awesome as everybody knows.
You know, i'm rearlly getting into these Napoleonic wars :D
Also got the new Frederick Forsyth book (The Afghan) on the shelf still left over from Christmas to read. Has anyone read this book, or any other Foresyth material, this is my first time i've had one of his books.
Go tell the spartans, stranger passing by the here, obedient to their laws we lie.
King Xerxes demanded that the Spartans lower their arms, to this Leonidas replied "Molon Labe" Come and get them.

Firstly, Welcome Marshall to our little corner.
I'm currently flying through Six Sacred Stones by Matthew Rielly. not exactly brain food, but entertaining nonetheless.
