Hey Fast Paul - thanks for checking out Gladiatrix. Just about to get stuck into the serious work of writing a sequel. I've been on a massive project at work which has finished now, so I can get back to writing, which is good. I just can't let my rejuvinated interest in Rome: Total War distract me!

Well, I downloaded the Extended Greek Mod, and I've added (but have yet to see) some amazons to it. The XGM v5 (which is the one I'm playing with) is really hard. I know that RTW experts will laugh in my face because the AI "so easy," but then again, the joy of playing is still there for me...I've just ousted the Macedonians, and am turning on the Independent Greek states how started on me for reasons best known to themselves!
That's really off-topic, isn'it.
I'm reading Sam (si) Barone's Dawn of Empire and Pressfields "Gates of Fire."

Near the end of Persian Fire by Holland, as usual fantastic!
Moriarty: I see that ten years in Britain have not changed your Imperial Roman outlook, Caesar. Caesar (G): True, Moriartus, always a Roman eye. Moriarty: Will you take wine? Caesar: No thanks, I think I'll have a half of mild and a packet of crisps.

I thought it was a fairly good yarn, but I reckon "The Tower" was better.
Not sure what to read when I finish "The Crystal Skulls"... any recommendations??
Cheers

Started reading Richard Dawkin's "The Ancestor's Tale", all about evolution along the lines of Chaucer's Cantervury Tales. Brilliant. This is evolution made easy and interesting and absolutely fascinating.....except that his vocabulary has many more big words than my vocabulary, so I'm struggling on that.

Just started Alex Hayleys "Roots" again. Read it years ago but thought it was time for it again. For our younger members who don`t remember it first time round it charts the decendent`s of Hayleys ancestors from Kunte Kinte in Africa caught by slave traders through his generations in the US until present day (cica 1977.) I remember it as a fantastic read, but maybe not quite so fantastically written. I will see....and let you know.

Currently been reading the Archangel series by Wendy Alec
Caution - Wendy Alec owns God.tv !!!
Its the story of the Fall of Lucifer and what happened in the heavenlies during the fall of man and christ coming ... to revelation times.
I high level of cheese and a good pinch of naff... but very readable... pity we know the plot already :-/

Did you know that the whole story was invented? But I found it a good work of fiction.

Just finished the below book, and really enjoyed it, lots of content to get your teeth into, lots of information for those wanting to learn more latin terms for things (and a glossary for idiots like me). Im not going to spoil any of the plot etc... but the characters really grow as the book progresses...i give it a 3.5/5
Fire in the East (The first book in the Warrior of Rome series) (2008) A novel by
Harry Sidebottom

AD 255 - the Roman Imperium is stretched to breaking point, its authority and might challenged throughout the territories and along every border. Yet the most lethal threat lurks far to the east in Persia, where the massing forces of the Sassanid Empire loom with fiery menace. The far-flung and isolated citadel of Arete faces out across the wasteland, awaiting the inevitable invasion. One man is sent to marshall the defences of this lonely city - one man to shore up the crumbling walls of a once indomitable symbol of Roman power - a man whose name itself means war, a man called Ballista. Alone, Ballista is called to muster the forces and the courage to stand first and to stand hard against the greatest enemy ever to confront the Imperium. In the bestselling tradition of Bernard Cornwell and Conn Iggulden, comes a block-busting voice in historical adventure fiction.

Just finished "Deaths Head: Maximum Offence". Great fun!
Now reading "Stardust" by Neil Gaiman.
I saw the mention of RTW. Has anyone tried the Invasio Barbararium mod? Superb IMO. But what I really want is to get my hands on Empire: Total War. Looks awesome!
Cheers for now

just finished dark watch by Clive Cussler
Normally love Clives books as a good no nonsense ripping yarn but having read this one about the from the Oregon files the story is ok but i can't get my head round a ship of heavily armed mecenaries floating round the worlds oceans dealing out ass kicking to various "baddies" surley these guys are pirates and just as illeagle as the bad guys. OK there doing jobs for Goverment doesn't want to do, but so do traffic wardens as the've all been put out to private companies but doesn't this mean the next time go get a ticket they will be packing an Uzi.
The premise that their ship can pass unobstrusivley into any port in the world and pass for a tramp steamer whilst packing enough fire power to sink the Bismark is just too unbelievable.
As i said earlier I'm a fan of the dirk pitt novels as they were good fun and the plots often picked up on myths and legends from around the world but IMO steer clear of the oregon files as its not a patch on his other novels |
