Why did you change your name, Parm?

"To be clear-headed rather than confused; lucid rather than obscure; rational rather than otherwise; and to be neither more, nor less, sure of things than is justifiable by argument or evidence. That is worth trying for."

I was born Robin Carter, but as a toddler we moved first to Northern Ireland for 6 months and then down to live with my step dads family in county Kerry, but for the 6 months in the eary 70's in orthern Ireland it was a bad idea to be known as English, so we took on my step dads surname, when i was 16 i was allowed to revert back to Carter (we were only in Ireland for about 2 years)...so in summary...it was so dey didnt blow me up!

Amazing reason! Being targeted on the basis of a name...I'll never understand that mentality.

My sequal would start as a love story. 5 years on and Leona is courting a man in the village. Jacob doesn't like the fact that Leonas attentions have distracted from him and he spys on them. Since the death of Jenny 2 years ago from a viral infection, they have been closer than ever, but the new interest in Leonas life has had an effect on Jacob.
The story continues with occasional visitors to the secluded village, some nice, some not so. The self defending people of the village or uncompromising and unforgiving. They have learnt not to trust too easily.
The world is in pieces, people and villages exist, but by their own rules, travelling is not taken lighly, but Leona and her boyfriend need space, her pregnancy must be kept secret for now. Their journey is only followed by Jacob, hiding and following. Leona knows of her guardian angel, but finds it difficult. Jacob finds it hard to keep distance and not get involved in meeting strangers or fights.
Dont really have much more afriad, only a vision of the 2 people on a journey through the part working, very paranoid UK looking for a safe place to give birth, with Jacob following. I reckon there will be a big deception in store and also a hero.
I see it as a book of hope in the future, we'll get through and not learn from our lessons, we'll wake up the power stations and fuel lines, the trying of televisions and radios, the odd car being chased by people. The children that know no different, the battery operated Homer that still works and children have no idea who he is or was.
oops, drifting away again!

With some of those themes...you're quite close to what I'm writing. Nostalgia for the 'easy' world we once had plays a part...and Leona/Jake pine for it amidst the broken landscape of post-oil Britain, reminded daily of that world by things like, as you say, the battery operated Homer who post-oil kids would have no idea about.
I'm also working on a much larger canvas though. A cultural legacy of sorts, left behind by what Jenny/Leona/Jake do in this tale.
