Bought my copy last week in waterstones. Not only £3 off but it was also signed by Simon which is a result. I now have I think 3 of his signed now.

Is this one worth a read? Saw it in Borders at the weekend and it looks a bit heavy and thick. I need a relaxing bit of escapism and am not sure if this does it in quite the way that the Roman books do. Opinions?

Its a ,more involved story but retains the pace of the eagles books, but its 3rd in the series so you need the other 2 first, 9/10 imho
If you want some other ideas for fast fun reads
Try Julian stockwin, john wilcox, douglas jackon (caligula) Ben kane,
Coward on th beach (cant remeber the authors name)

Hmmm, looks like I might have to get down to Waterstones and help stem the effects of the Credit Crunch. Young Blades and The Generals here I come.

Its worth the read, Peter. Very different from the Roman series, and I was wary at first, but excellent read! I really enjoyed Book two and look forward to this latest release.

Remind me, is this a trilogy or a quadrology?

It's four books, Peter. I'm going to start on the last in the series in March, due for publication in 2010. Hope you enjoy the series.

Then your bibliography page is wrong simon as ithas Young bloods as the first book of a trilogy

eg:
First in a trilogy following the lives of the Duke of Wellington and Emperor Napoleon.
Born in the same year, two young boys from radically different social and cultural backgrounds are destined to meet on the bloody battlefield of Waterloo.
An epic tale of two of history’s greatest generals

I was in me local Waterstones yesterday, they didnt have many copies of Fire and Sword but they did have the biggest collection of Simons books ive seen in a shop. Also as i was browsing through some chap picked up his copy of The Generals and asked me if i knew of a thrid book, so i grinned devilishly and he walked with Fire and Sword as well!

I was in Tunbridge Wells yesterday so popped into Waterstones - a big branch. Same story, no special promotion or special display.

Cheers

Number 2 in the Daily Telegraph at the weekend, and 5 in the Sunday Times, so someone is selling it! Weird.

Good news simon! I was in another Waterstones at the weekend, in Chelmsford, and they had made more of an effort with posters and wot not. But there wasnt many copies of fire and sword on sale, so i can only guess theyre selling! Also for some idiotic reason jamie bloody oliver was still in the number 1 spot! The store also had a display stand at the front of the store promoting all the eagle books which was good to see!

just had a look at the rack in Jarrold (where I work) and the piles are patchy, so it is selling and the copies we have here are 3rd printing....
we're also doing a buy one get one half price on the eagle and revolution back catalog in PB, which seems to going well too.
prominent rack space opposed to buried on the shelf somewhere.
noticed there is a larger format PB edition of Under the eagle, wonder why they are doing that?

Will Fire and Sword be in digital format on Waterstones soon. Got a Sony ereader for Christmas but can't wait much longer. I fear I may be tempted buy an old fashioned out of date non electronic gadget book.

It will hopefully help with my book storage problems but I am disappointed about the number of books available. Also you don't get that "I'm opening a new book" feeling when you download one. But reading is easy especially if you are reading a large heavy book.

Fire and Sword was on the front entrance table at Hatchards earlier this week. And also prominently displayed at the WHSmiths in the departure lounge of Southampton Airport.

Still waiting for my copy though.
