...slated for a 2010 release, with Peter Berg (Kindom) directing.
Whilst I'm sure this will ultimately disappoint, I'm all a-tremble with anticipation.
I did a little reading on the history of Dune as a film project. And, as I already knew, there was an adaptation in the works before David Lynch's version, that had the artist Giger, and Dali involved. But...what I didn't know, was that Pink Floyd were signed up to do the soundtrack!
What an incredible film that would've been if the plug hadn't been pulled.

Always loved Dune. The David Lynch's version surely must be one of the most quotable films of all time - magnificent.
I read the pre-trilogy from Frank Herbert's son Brian, which though lighter, told excellently, of Leto and Jessica's early life and of the Harkonnan's and how the Baron was twisted into 'that floating fat man', encompassing doom.
Hmmmm....Spice - reminds me of traveling.

Hated drune. Tried to read it 6 times. slow dull and uninvolving for me. Film was a great comedy, pity it wasnt build as one.

| Slav, I thoroughly enjoyed the three prequels, for my mind they were much more digestible than Herbert's originals. And as for Lynch's much derided film, I've always considered it to be a flawed masterpiece; visually stunning, fantastic set and costume design, well cast (except for the lead role :-). What let it down I think was the brutal trimming it recieved to fit the mandatory 2-2.5 hours to appease distributors/cinema chains. It ended up being little more than a feature-length trailer for a much longer story - utterly bewildering to those cinema-goers who'd never read the book, and who quite predictably derided it as a load of impenetrable nonsense. |

Actually I can't quite see why anyone would bother to remake it. I plugged my way through the original books - but wasn't enthralled - and found the film too turgid to be worth watching all through. If it was done as a set of films, like LoTR, maybe it could work given enough explanation at the start by way of a preamble. But I don't think the public would rush to the cinemas to see them, it's too much of a specialised market.
Cheers
