Poll Question:
So here we are, worst recession since the stone age. How has it affected your choice of reading matter? More specifically, I'm interested to see if there are any clear genre winnners in times of economic hardship.

So...since the majority of readers here habitually read historical, maybe I shouldn't have included historical...dunno, maybe you're readin even more of it?

So any way...be interesting to see if there any emergent market trends appearing amongst forum members.

Choices:

Unchanged
Fantasy: I want a magical book that takes me far away
SciFi: Screw planet Earth. I''m booking a ticket off-world until times get better
Historical: gimme history any day. 21st century sucks
Thriller: I want a big conspiracy and big explosions in a real world setting
Crime: show me some grim gritty crime scenes and a neurotic DCI
Romance: Ooo-err...I want to escape the downturn into the arms of a hunk
Factual: I want an explanation of how this economic cockup happened

I could have chosen any of the first four options. But you can keep crime, romance and thrillers, and my factual reading is all military stuff which wouldn't tell me anything about the way politicians have messed up almost everything they've tried to do for the last ten years in almost every country.

Cheers

I haven't changed mine. As for reading about the recession, the best time to read about what really happened is 20 years after the event. Even better, 30 years after the event when Cabinet papers are released and we get to find out what Gordon Brown REALLY said and did.

Recently I've been reading a lot of Crime novels. One of my friends got me into Jeffery Deaver books and now i'm hooked.

However, I don't think that has anything to do with the recession.

King Xerxes demanded that the Spartans lower their arms, to this Leonidas replied "Molon

Moriarty: I see that ten years in Britain have not changed your Imperial Roman outlook, Caesar.
Caesar (G): True, Moriartus, always a Roman eye.
Moriarty: Will you take wine?
Caesar: No thanks, I think I'll have a half of mild and a packet of crisps.
