What are the books you would recommend people not to read.

For me anything with Dune or DragonSinger in the title!

Moriarty: I see that ten years in Britain have not changed your Imperial Roman outlook, Caesar.
Caesar (G): True, Moriartus, always a Roman eye.
Moriarty: Will you take wine?
Caesar: No thanks, I think I'll have a half of mild and a packet of crisps.

The Bible. Badly paced, and too far fetched.

Anything that is plugged as "great British" fantasy or science fiction. The last British work worth bothering to read was Day of the Triffids. NB - Alex's books don't fall into this category!

Cheers

The Unabomber's Manifesto. That guy should be in prison just for being boring with language.

post-accident?

So when the centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they feared greatly, saying, “Truly this was the Son of God!”

Not sure if it's my least favourite book, but it's trying its best to be:

The Lost Throne by Chris Kuzneski. Someone leant it to me, believing I would enjoy it. It's a Da Vinci Code knock-off (which didn't bode well to start with), with Spartans instead of the Roman Catholic Church (!)

Badly written, stereotyped characters, one of the heroes is intensly dislikeable. Spends far too much time doing physical descriptions (for example one character - the annoying one - gets half a page just about his chin!!) I'm about a third of the way through, and I'm not sure I can be bothered with the rest.

Anything by James Patterson, All his books are just to predictable, he also has zero talent at putting tension into any of the books i've had the misfortune to read.

''A generation of men is like a generation of leaves; the wind scatters some leaves upon the ground, while others the burgeoning wood brings forth - and the season of spring comes on. So of men one generation springs forth and another ceases.''

Hi Pykett - millions of people would disagree with you on the Patterson front. But I agree with you!

I think the worst thing I ever read was Thomas Harlan's Oath of Empire series.

http://www.throneworld.com/oathofempire/index.html

It was such a brilliant premise but the books - for me - didn't deliver.

Also - those Vampire: The Masquerade novels were really bad too...

A new one to add to the list and its not out for a few months, Ides of March by Manfredi, sorry to say that this so called tense political thriller, looking at the lead up to the assasination is once more proof thAt manfredi just cannot write, i dont know who wrote the alexander series an if it washim it was a flash in the pan, because nothing since has been worth printing....well the eagle and the dragon could have been if not for the mad flying ninjas.

Get out! The Lost Army one was great. And in what world is flying Ninja vs Roman soldiers a bad thing...Valerio has works of varying quality, yes...but saying nothing since Alex has been worth printing is being a bit harsh here, Parm.

Manfredi tends to write in italian, these books are then translated into English.......... The Last Army, The Alexander books were all reasonable good, I found the historical events very accurate, yet I also found the English is a sorry state at time, and therefore, difficult to read sometimes having to reword a section so I could understand it. I have not read his latest book, manily as I do not have the time to actually to sit and deciefer what has been translated.
