Hmmm....After Light....Afterlight......
I think now the initial reaction has died down it ain`t so bad.....could even grow on people....maybe? I prefer it as one word, though two words link better to Last Light. Still think there`s something better out there though. I don`t see the need for the link myself, it`s gonna have sequel to Last Light printed all over anyway. The link is Alex from a buying point of view, and the title needs to say BUY ME.

I think that means it's official. If it were down to me - after much consideration I would go for:-
A Twilight World
But Orion were very concerned with the word 'Twilight' being anywhere in the title, for obvious reasons. |

Forgive me for being a thickie on this, i know some of the publishing side of things.
But when did the author lose control of the cover and the title?
did they ever have control of this?
or is it only when you have made your name and control a certain market share that you can demand control over title and cover?

Final say on cover/title usually go with the publisher. I think it might even be in the contract somewhere. But if you're a big-big-name author I think the publisher will allow a little wriggle room if an author is completely unhappy with a design.
That said, I forget the author, but recently there was a story of some American author, I think, who objected to the face of the protagonist on the cover, who was portrayed as white, when in fact her character was black. The publisher did a rather prompt about turn when she raised hell, most probably out of fear of an accusation of rascism, and she got the cover she wanted. I think though, that was very much an exception to the rule. Generally though, it's the marketing guys who get to make the call.
nb: I think it's only fair to say I've found both my publishers quite accommadating, ready to listen to my suggestions. Whilst I haven't ever gotten my favourite covers, I've managed to steer them away from a few I really detested.
and I do feel that |
