I'm quite surprised to find myself enjoying this 5 parter. Having dipped into the first season and found it laughable, occasionally cringe-inducing, this children of earth story really is a step up in quality for the writers.

I enjoy torchwood its a bit of fun....but yes this 5 part series is a step up, the suspense they are creating running back to back is great, and the story line is fantastic...

i've watched eps 1-4 back to back today, and have to say i've enjoyed it too. good depth and not too over the top. looking for ward to the climax tonight.
Although i'm struggling to see a new series, as thats 3 out of the 5 cast members dead-so far.....

Thought it was a good series. Some of the acting, particularly Peter Capaldi, was very good. Capaldi's obvious disgust for his taks, but understanding the need, was perfectly reflected by the tortured look on his face. The ending was pretty good (spoiler alert!!), and I was impressed that they had the guts to leave the kid dead, instead of the easier option of making him immortal like his GD. The PM was bit too 1 dimensional, and the american General annoyingly wooden.
I can't see Torchwood coming back for a while. Jack's left the world, welsh wifey's gonna have a kid, and although there are a few charectors that can repleace them, I can't see it. Maybe a special, based a few years from now, when Gwen's baie's old enough for a role.

I'd prefer him to be an occasional charector in the Dr Who. Would slo be good to see the relaionship between a younger Dr and a Cap' who's had to take so many tough decisions.
P.S: do they want to make Jack some sort of evil Santa? Seem to remember another episode where he let a young girl be taken away by faires. That's 3 times, at least, that he's now sacrificed a child for the greater good. Don't know if the Dr's ever done that...

| Finally watched this using the BBC's brilliant iplay service. Have to say it is way ahead of the rest of Torchwood and nearly all of the recent batch of Dr Who. Best scene by far was the cabinet meeting where the ministers talk themselves into not entering their kids into being eligible for alien abduction, and then ruthlessly go for underachievers in a way that was perfectly believable. Better still, was the amount of time devoted to that scene, given the series' usual wham bam pace. Some bits were still pretty icky - Jack is back being one of them. But on the whole, great entertainment. Well done the Beeb! |
