Parmenion,
Your right, when Vitellius was around everyone had to constantly look over their shoulder. Narcissus is always a threat to drive home a blade in someones back, in the name of the Emperor and politics. But I think that this book was the only one without a top notch backstabber with a master plan.

Good point Parm, that aspect kinda sliped my mind.

Who was that first girlfriend of Cato's, If I remember right, was it Lavinia?? well maybe not a girlfriend, she seemed to play the field pretty well!!

She took one for the team, did she not??...lol

Maybe Julia will follow the same path. I am kind of indifferent to her, but I do think your right, Macro giving Julia that mercy poke...(with a Gladius!!) would have made a very interesting future between Macro and Cato.

hey guys just got to say i loved gladiator really good read though not my favourite in the series i thought that macro would kill julia just because of the time he saved those captured romans from suffering in the eagle in the sands this just shows even macro struggles to do what he must and can be indecisive with things which shows he can make mistakes like anyone else

Looks like the "Kill Julia" club has gained another member.

Simon, are you listening?????? There's a character to bump off in your next book. How about having Narcissus have Julia bumped off? Then we get rid of Julia and have a backstabber back all in one book.

If...and its a big If, simon were to kill of Julia, i think it should be Vitellius who does it, to built the emnity between the two of them, and their paths dont have to cross, because julia could return to Rome and new could reach Cato! there could be a Son born there somewere? someone to carry on the legacy and also to cause problems for Cato along the line and a nice link into titus, young enough to serve under him etc...

That's a splendid idea, Parm! Cato has left Julia pregnant when he sailed away with Macro to find Ajax. She and her father continue to Rome and there she overhears something which causes Vitellius to kill her and Catos' unborn child. Way to go!

No i think the child should live, and a new thought, at first i think Cato should be unaware, maybe Vitellius should raise the child as his own, or have him raised to hate Cato!!

Interesting. Vitellius had two sons by different marriages, Aulus & Germanicus. Maybe one of them.

I like what Simon is doing with the characters, thought it was good that Cato got promoted and sure I'd love to see those two in senior positions in a legion but I'm not going to hold my breath. Simon we trust you to keep making the story interesting and fun which is essentially why we all read isn't it?

One other thing...Just to clarify...The books are all perfect...No criticism will be accepted...
*Points accusingly at all the 'bad guys'* For shame...
