Well, that's it as far as Games Workshop goes. Having put my name down to reserve a copy of the new Space Hulk, and being assured it would be in on Saturday and that they would call me so that I could go in and buy my reserved copy, it turns out that they didn't bother. So I called them on Monday to ask what was going on and was told that they had called but could not get through and therefore put my game on the shelves. A bloody lie if ever there was one. THere was no call and no message on the machine in any case. So on Monday they said they would check with other stores to see if there was a copy available and call me back within 20 mintues. Didn't happen. I called today to ask what the hell was going on and was given some bullshit about trying to call me again.
Bottom line, they can take their crappy service and shove it up their asses. Useless bunch of nerdy, dishonest and incompetent prats. But then what can you expect in a consumer culture where poor service seems to be the rule and accountability is cynically ignored. Same goes for Anglian Water who knew that there was a water leakage problem before they signed me up to a contract. Then when a vast bill comes in and I protest and have proof that they knew there was an existing problem, you cannot get through to anyone to discuss the issue. It sucks. So, to conclude my happy tale, I am thinking up ways of taking the staff of one Games Workshop store in Norwich, together with the customer service dept of ANglian Water and force them to endure their wretched phone support service for all eternity.

can you get their names and imortalise them in a book mate...slaves tortured in the most horrible ways? you still having those water issues?
As for buying in shops...i gave up...online is the way to go. I bought an iphone on ebay last week, jailbroken for £100, unlocked, so i can have it on orange. its brilliant without the itunes ripoffs and the 02 scams..

That's odd...GW were - there's no other way of describing it - exemplary for me. I came in store and put me name down on the reserve list. I got a call from them 24hours later to confirm the phone number was legit, and a check-see that I was coming to get it (otherwise, yes, it would go to the next available customer). And came in, picked up my copy on release day. They even threw in a free bacon sandwich as I queued to pay in the morning when they opened!
I of course refused the sandwich, as I'm working on re-acquiring my 32 inch waistline.

| Yeah? Well they were bloody rubbish for me and they sure as hell won't be getting my custom again. Nor will I be reticent in giving my opinion about their rubbish customer relations if anyone asks. |

Games Workshop? I have been in one of those big halls where they play the games once to "investigate" what all the fuss was about this game.
Walked out crying with laughter... The staff were the biggest... lets go with UNUSUAL people i have ever met... Period.
The idea looks good though.

I was in the durham store the day befoer the launch and there was a whole load of panicing going on. GW had not produced enough copies of the game and had not sent the required numbers to the various stores as some had over 100 on reserve order. the phone was manic and the store manager even more so.
I still have my original space hulk.. must get the kids to play it. They are already on warhammer and warhammer 40k
....now where did i put that copy of bloodbowl

Woohoo - an opportunity for a GW rant in the company of fellow nerds!
Without running the risk of sounding like a real grumpy old bugger.........(warning grumpy old bugger alert!!)............
I remember when GW were a great UK independent manufacturer, before they became the Microsoft (well a much smaller UK only version) of the gaming world. I recall when White Dwarf was a fantastic magazine covering games from loads of different publishers rather than the inhouse puff-piece it is now.
I am still dragged into GW in Norwich by my 15 year old, although I much prefer the Games Room on Elm Hill. There I spent many an hour in my mis-spent youth deciding what we thought of the latest rule system, whether RuneQuest, Call of Cthulhu, Traveller or Star Fleet Battles...ah the nostalgia - must be getting old! |

Hi Stuartr, Ah! The games room. one of the finest shops in Norwich, and definitely on the prettiest street in the city. That's where I bought my first copy of the original Space Hulk (amongst many other games). The guy who runs it is good for views on which games would suit your needs. Over time I have spent far more there than in GW which has a terribly limited range of games (naturally).
Have resolved by differences with GW and they have shipped me a copy of the new Hulk now. Looks terrific, now all I have to do is hassle the boys into playing a game with me (once I have sabotaged the PC network). |
