I've noticed that a few of you have been blessed with the knowledge of Latin... would someone be so kind to translate a few sentances for me. Before you ask they are for tattoos... sooo i will need a few reliable sources and no BULL! i Don't want "i am an arsehole" tattooed to me... lol
Unity is Power Learn from the past or be doomed to repeat it...

lol - I've asked the in-laws as they are both retired Classics teachers who taught Greek and Latin.
Don't worry - they are honest..........
Although you can't be exactly what phrase I asked them to translate

The most latin I know it can from dictionary. But if you what something like you wrote it could be "ego stolidus est" My forum signature " Ars longa, vita brevis" means "Art last, life is short" but if you want to make a tattoo it's better first to know what you what and then translate in latin
"Ars Longa, Vita Brevis"

Not exactly what you asked for but apparently there is a degree of crossover between strength and power
Ex Unitate Vires - Unity is Strength
They are still working on the second one.... |

They have also come up with a second version of the Unity is Power one, as well as the second one - their email to me is posted in its entirety below.
quote:
Herewith are some more suggestions plus some notes from Les: Concordia est Potestas or In Concordia Potestas con-together cord-heart potest-be able cf potent it is more difficult to be concise with the second one without losing some of the meaning but here it is Discite ex praeteritis aut vestrum fatum eadem petere est discite -learn cf. discipline, disciple ex-from, out of praeter by(gone) )past things ,events itis-gone ) aut-or vestrum-your(pl.) fatum-fate. fari-to utter(of oracle/god) so spoken word ea -things dem-same cf. ibidem in ref. books petere-to seek, recall, re-enact(cf,petition) Hope this is useful-it's a bit scary if it is going to be used for a tattoo! There are a couple of roman sayings that contain the gist of your message:
Concordia civium murus urbium. (literally "The harmony of citizens is the wall of cities") Ubi concordia, ibi victoria. (literally "Where there is harmony, there is victory") Vis Unita Fortior. (literally "United strength is stronger")

Legum servi sumus ut liberi esse possimus. |

Vis Unita Fotrior sounds good to me.
its hard for me when it comes to tattoos because they have to actually have a meaning unlike some of the crazy stuff people have. and i like to try to have one thats unique and still keeps its personal meaning to me.
