So what do you lot think of the idea not to have the web cam??

It would have been (according to Alex's Blog) disgusting, yet revealing!!

Im quite sad to hear its not happening, just think of the forum amusement we could have had!!

He could make some extra money, having viewers paying subscription. Me I intend to get a webcam, only for MSN messenger and Skype. Not for any other use.

im not ever getting one, my mum got all set up so she could have web cam chats with me, and did not even bother checking i was goingto buy the equipment my self...she was a little deflated when i said ...nope...im not broad band either so it would be too slow!!...its takes away some of the fun anonimity of the web!!

that aside it would have been fun to point at the PC and laugh at Alex!! LOL!!

No webcam for me, not even for Skype. I think Alex's decision not to have one was right. After all, I think the mystery makes it more attractive, rather than exposing everything to view.

I dont know whats more disturbing that Alex thinks he's Orlando Bloom (you been watching that LOTR boxset again haven't you!) or that fact that Parm thinks he's a german shrink.

Alex, you can aim to be a sex god or Orlando Bloom. You cannot do both.

Andy, Parm, I'm really beginning to worry about the both of you.

Or is that a heartattack...........

Alex, you are clearly delusional, and i prescribed much consumption of wine to clear these weird thoughts from your mind and I dread to think what francis will say when i tell her you think she is Orlando Bloom

Warren, not much more i can say really, but welcome to the club!...hehe

I'd be happy to put up a webcam, but all you guys would see is a pile of tennants super cans, bottles of bourbon and packets of beef jerky. That about covers my desk.

I'll tell you in all seriousness, Parm. There was a time that I'd drink one can of TS before settling down to write in the evening. It was the perfect measure since it slowed down the thought processes to a speed that my typing could cope with. As the effects wore off I'd top it up with the bourbon. The empty beef jerky packets are merely there for aesthetic effect. But since Alex pointed out to me how many calories there are in the booze I've cut right back. Seems not to have had any negative impact, just the usual cold turkey, paranoid hallucinations and icy sweats. That's all. So it goes to show that writers who depend on drink are just making it all up.

Or they include their paranoid hallucinations in their story line.

Without his drug and alcohol addiction, Samuel Taylor Coleridge could never have written "In Xanadu did Khublai Khan a stately pleasure dome decree..." Pity the effects wore out before he could finish the poem.

My desk draw at work has beef jerky packets in side... i find they are less fattening than lots of peanut M&M's ...

Im sort of with you on the boooze thing, when i was a single parent...many years ago.. i had no out side stumulation ...toddlers dont really get rid of all that mental energy!!

I tried my had at lots of things inc a bit or writing... this was the point where i worked out i have very little talent in this area!!...nor the patience to do it properly!! .. but i did find that a larger or 3 helped me concentrate.. but the 4th onwards had a detrimental effect!!..

i still find a nice cold beer while reading a good book alows you to slow fdown and appreciate the story, other wise my brain is a little erratic!!.

you might have noticed that while im on here and sober during woring hours!! LOL!!

While we are on the subject of food on desks....mine has diet coke cans and After Eight wrappers (with my coffee).

I originally came to Alderney with the thought of taking a year off work and writing a book based on the Spanish Armada; I've been collecting accounts of and original records for it for years. But I wasn't disciplined enough to keep it going. I've kept up drinking the calvados though!

You only have coffee after eight, Ankhsy? Would that be am or pm?

But a book based on the Armada would be very intersting, please do write it. I'm sure Simon and Alex could get you a good agent to place it with a publisher! Alas, I don't think any of the publishers I work with would regard the Armada as fitting into their lines of books about tanks, aircraft and railways.

Cheers

John

I'm planning to pick the story up again once I get my PhD out of the way (in three years!).

I wrote a little paper back in 1988 on legends of the Spanish Armada in SouthWest England - any basis in fact for them - for the Spanish Navy. They originally asked me to research survivors (if any) of the Armada shipwrecks in England. My research concluded that it is unlikely there were any survivors in England/Ireland. It was that which got me interested in the story, plus the fact that my first cousin is a descendant of the leader of the 1588 Armada.

Hey, what else is family for?

It could be worse. I could be a blood descendant.
