1. Open Candidacy: I'll open a thread entitled 'Election Candidates'. Everyone who wants to run should just reply saying something like 'count me in'. I'll leave this open until the 'election' begins.
2. When the election begins, a new thread will be opened called 'Candidate Manifesto'. This is ONLY for candidates. Each Candidate may post ONCE only, with a maximum of 500 words.(that doesn't mean your manifesto needs to be so long! Short and Sweet will probably do as well). There should be NO comments on this thread at all, just the manifesto.
3. Also when the election begins, I'll open another thread called 'The Soapbox Arena'. This is where candidates, and everyone else can sling the mud around, completely rip apart the candidate's policies etc etc. There will be no limits (as long as it doesn't get too nasty).
4. When the above two thread are opened I'll also open 'The Election Day Poll' which will remain locked until the appointed date, which will be a WEEK AFTER the election begins.
5. The Election winner will receive a prize (which Simon and I need to discuss ;-)
Any questions on the above people? You can post 'em on this thread, comments, queries etc etc. And then if we're all happy with the rules, and there's enough interest, the first Scarrowwag election could begin on Monday.

Sounds good. Can we delay this for two weeks, or allow a long campainging time? I'm up to my eyeballs in work and will be away next week with work.

im on hols from the 12th for a week also so if its not delayed can we have it asap, and delay the close date?

Okay....let's hold that the campaigning until 24th July. So that's when the election campaign will start - when candidates post their manifesto, and we all start the soapbox free-for-all.
Meanwhile, I'll open the Election Candidates thread, and this will remain open UNTIL 24th. (no debating, or too-and-fros on this thread please, just announce your candidacy)
So now...you've all got about 20 days to think up your main policy(s)how you would improve the UK. Serious or silly...it's up to you. |

Sorry guys, I sort of let this slip a bit. Been too distracted with stuff.
Polling day, well....been thinking about this, as it stands, every candidate is likely to vote for him/herself and then we'll probably get a couple of transient voters dropping in, and they might add one or two more votes, which I think will produce a pretty flat result.
So I'm thinking, we'll do it this way...we'll have a first round, which is open for all candidates. Then we'll have a second round for the top 4 candidates (semi-final), then a third and final round for the top 2 (final)
How does that sound? If you're happy with that I'll nominate three successive polling dates, with probably a day or two between each, to allow the winning candidates to campaign aggressively....and of course to add a little tension to the proceedings. |

Polling dates for the election:
ROUND1: 25th September
All candidates compete in this round. At 9am I'll open a poll. 9pm I'll close it. The top 4 candidates continue to round2. In the event that we have tied places...I'll pick (basically I'll flick a coin)
ROUND2: 27th September
Again, I'll open the poll for the 4 candidates at 9am, close it 9pm. Top 2 candidates go through.
ROUND3: 29th September
9am open, 9pm closed. |

So do we or don't we vote for ourselves, Alex? The time-honoured tradition is that candidates for election smirk for the cameras while voting, and everyone assumes they voted for themselves. Can our IT expert Andy produce a "remote webcam" to preserve our smirks for posterity?
