Ok the book a Veteran of 1812 is the story of a real life Sharpe charachter called James Fitzgibbon an Irish man who rose through the ranks to become an officer and taught himself to read and write. He served in the war of 1812 against the USA in Canada. He formed his own guerrilla band called the bloody boys who raided US and was the man who captured a whole US army. This is an excellent book very well told on a forgotten figure in a forgotten war all in all worth a read.
thats what everyone forgets is the British Empire was fighting on 2 fronts, in the US and the french, I belive the Empre sacrificed the US (who wouldnt...hehe) for Europe.
