Fitz (Robbie Coltrane) as the Police psychologist with the addictive personality. I loved this series, and loathed the politically correct US version.
Prime Suspect (Helen Mirren) was another winner for me.

My wife liked both. I did my best to ignore them. Different people, different tastes, and I'd rather read a good book than watch TV.
Cheers

| Yes, OK, I can go along with that and our TV is shocking, but an occaisonal British series makes a change from American tripe. I wondered if they just exported the worst of their programmes, but friends who have risked the journey to that benighted land tell me it's just as bad on the home front. |

SABC, has always been bad, then came MNET, and that seemed to make a bit of difference, turned out in the end that everyone just pasid more for the same c**p, that SABC was pushing out. I prefered my PC and Doom at the time - 1995/6, and videos.

Well, we've got DSTV (satellite) now - about 40 odd channels in theory, depending where you live - but it's expensive. I havn't bothered. Most of my friends who subscribed reckon it's a bit of a waste of money, unless you're big sports fan and willing to shell out for it.
Things are going to change. DSTV is about R400, and MNet is about R240, but they keep increasing the MNet subscription, hoping people will go for DSTV because there isn't too much difference in price. We've also been told government are going to terminate MNet's land transmission rights one of these days, and force them onto satellite. I doubt if they'll complain, but I'll just cancel my subscription at that point.
A few people have told me the "History Channel" (DSTV) is great, and I got them to tape a couple of programmes for me. Is this really meant for children? |

Cracker was good in that it introduced to the public the concept of psychological profiling, and the birth of forensic linguistics.
The conference I was at earlier this week was the first time that forensic psychologists and forensic linguists got together to discuss the things they have in common, instead of trying to ignore the existence of the other. We (forensic linguists) need a similar tv series to raise our profile.

| I absolutely loved cracker, they didn't go with the well mannered, well dressed type. Which was a breathe of fresh air, shame they didn't translate it to the american version. |
