Have to say i have not seen a rise in the temp!!

Warm climate 'altering countryside' Wednesday August 30, 01:12 AM

Climate change is already altering countryside across the UK and Europe, scientists have warned.

A study of 21 country estates across Europe, including four in the UK, found every one had been affected by a rapidly warming climate, according to a report.

Researchers from the University of East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit and the Country Land and Business Association (CLA), who carried out the study, said urgent action was needed to minimise the impact of climate change on food and forest

production.
Dr David Viner, senior climate scientist at the University of East Anglia and co-author of the report, said: "We are already seeing the impacts of climate change on all of the estates we examined and our models show that this is just the beginning.

"Hotter summers, increased droughts and sporadic, heavy rainfall have huge implications for agriculture.

"Sea level rise remains a major threat in many areas, as does an increased risk of forest fires, as we have already seen this summer."

Scientists expected many native plant and animal species to be lost as they moved northwards, and an increase in the number of pests affecting people, animals and trees, he said.

The report said governments across the EU needed to help and encourage landowners to counter the effects of climate change.

Michael Sayer, of the CLA, said: "Our climate is warming faster than previously thought and the impact on agriculture and forestry has been understated.

"Landowners are taking this seriously, but the EU urgently needs to produce a coherent policy."

And they _still_haven't produced any evidence from climatologists that would indicate anything unusual about this warming trend. Greenland was _green_ back around the turn of the first millenium, but then the world got slightly cooler. Now it's going back to that warmer level. Big deal.

The world has been there before. The Sahara once bloomed. The only difference this time is the cimate change is man made.

A report was commissioned in 2002 on climate change, entitled. Climate change scenarios for the United Kingdom: the UKCIP02 briefing report.

To explain climate change, a computer model was used to simulate global climate from 1860 to 2000 taking into account natural factors, human factors and then both sets of factors combined. Only when both natural and human factors were included could the model accurately reflect the course of global-average temperature over the entire 140 year period, and especially the warming since the 1970s. This report showed that there increasing human influence on climate change.

I wonder if they factored into it the impact of deforestation - greedy woodcutters in some areas, greedy goats eating the saplings in others.

Back before the Ethiopian famine started, quite a few years ago, there was a BBC documentary showing the loss of vegetation and soil erosion caused by goats in Ethiopia and pointing out that the loss of trees and bushes would reduce rainfall. The latter being a well-established fact long before then.

I read an article somewhere which critisized a charity (CAFOD?) for encouraging people to buy goats for charity for exactly that reason, John. So I gave a couple of toilets and school kits instead!

Goats eat the whole plant, even the roots, so there's no regeneration. That's the problem with them.

Yup! (grin)

Or we could stop blaming England and the US(it isn't commonly know that the US is actually a carbon _sink_, absorbing more than it produces as emissions) and try blaming the countries that generate most - China and India.

Cheers

oh the us could still produce a hell of a lot less, then they would actully be helping.

but yes china and india and packistan then russian nations (cant name them all) produce the vast majority of the worlds CO2 and pollutants

CO2 emissions, does that include the amount of CO2 generated in Parliament?
