I heard on BBC Radio 4 yesterday that the Americans conside the UK a dangerous source of radical muslims and are concerned that there are no checks on British citizens travelling to the US under the visa waiver agreement. They are now considering withdrawing from the agreement as they want to be able to prevent British Muslims from travelling to the US without an interview.

The problem is to distinguish between Britons who happen to be Moslem, and Moselm fanatics who happen to have got a British passport without actually being British in beliefs or behaviour.

| I'm a bit wary about this treaty. Does it mean that Americans can come over here just as freely? I mean the last thing we want on our streets are gun nuts and home grown US terrorists like Tim McVeigh wandering our streets. |

LOL, another example of the "special relationship" between the UK and USA.
I guess the Americans think that they aren't too worried about their citizens having to obtain visas to go to the UK. After all, only 12% of them have passports.

In theory, but doesn't necessarily work that way, Parm. Depends how poodleish Blair is feeling at the time.

He is probably hanging on to power because he hasn't yet secured a lucrative sinecure to keep him and Cherie in the style they have become accustomed to after he does. After all, remember that big mortgage they got for their new house.

With any luck he'll be doing time for selling peerages, so won't be able to do lectures about his "successes" to US businessmen.
