i've always seen cato as a classical roman type, with brown eyes, dark hair and olive skin, some what similar to orlando bloom. however, in the beginning of chapter 4 of the eagle's prey, it states that on the end of the row of centurions of the third cohort sat a tall dark youth. does this refer to cato being in poor lighting or does hint of cato being from a more exotic part of the empire?

welcome Laurentius, I would think simon was refering to the hair and the probable tanned and/or weathered face, and probably as you say bad light, or shadow....
I know simon is working with one of our newer members - Nab - to create to characterisations of many of the series' characters
Please feel free to wander around and join us in the coffee bar for a brew and a natter about anything...(usually is anything too hehe)

| oh ok, you're probably right, just got me thinking. its weird when you have a view of something that can be changed like that, like when you see a book you've read on telly and it totally challenges the way you view the character |

most defianlty, simons charcters have evolved the same as his writing style has over the series. and we're bound to spot little nuances through the series..

any more views on this? i would like to know how people see cato and macro, and how their own interpretations may differ from my own, from hair, skin, eyes, build, accent, not just what is historically accurate but what you imagine they're like when your reading the books
