How about we make the new clerk a slave that way no soldiers are wasted and the slave could be an agent of the emperors son.????

What, _another_ agent of the Emperor's son? Only if he's gong to be detected and forced to tell what's going on and where the wretched man is.

And his name is? Or can we make the slave a woman?

I've put him in diguise as a Legionary. But there's no reason why "he" shouldn't turn out to be a woman later, a slave wouldn't have much say in the disguise. Can we call him Lurcio as a man>

Sounds good. Perhaps when her disguise is finally uncovered, she could be called Lucretia.

Hey, Parm, this is fun! With only us contributing we can move the story sensibly along. (grin) I'll be back in a while!

Ideas: Lurcio is the one who faked the Imperial seal immpression on those despatches. He/she will be unmasked by the miserable Andius, who accidentally trips Lurcio up and says "what's this?" when the seal drops out of Lurcio's tunic in front of Gaius Mucius. This won't happen until Gaius has "received" a string of contradictory orders from Rome and been driven half insane trying to work out what they mean.

sounds good but should we not have andius interupt lurcio in the baths, thus unmasking her as a woman then as her things are being packed to expecl her they find the incrimpinating stuff then a bit of a torture scene while they uncover the plot!

That sounds better than my idea of Andius just being clumsy. Is Bacus going to be upset at losing his secret girlfriend?

Ok as i see it: We have brought in a slave girl pretending to be man to act as Clerk, this si so bacus can keep all his men on duty. Prefect is a moaning nit picker . we have bacus uncover her secret first, but blackmail her into being his girl friend/ sex slave. Until andius discovers her in the baths and gives her away to Lurcio, this is becasue he is pissed about losing his cushy clerk job and wants it back that and bacus is mean to him. They then search her room and find that she is in league with the emperors son / barbarians and she is tourtured to uncover some of the over all plot.
Hows that??

Lurcio/Lucretia is the slave...she is the efficient one, and the Prefect is the moaning nit-picker.
Okay with the rest.

Anyway, we mustn't have her detected by Andius too quickly. We need a few faked Imperial orders to drive Gaius Mucius up the wall first.

Can we have a new thread for Chapter 11? Or do we have to wait for Andy to get home and copy the "new chapter" bits across to a new thread?

Ah. I thought perhaps you were introducing the Century clerk as a new character, Ankhsy. But you didn't add a new bit to the story!

No 'clerk' intended, John. Another one of them would have been too many running around.

I don't know. She popped in last week, I think, and than has dropped out of sight again. I thought she'd be back when the kids went back to school. She was really chummy with Raptor and I'm sure he misses her.

Let's have Gaius Mucius remembering that he's supposed to be pacifying the area so needs to talk to the villagers.
