Nisia's right, let's get some women into the story. Parmenion should accidentally meet an old girlfriend for a start - she just _might_ have some vital information and give it to him for old times' sake.
And when we get back to the village, Stomachis should have a wife who complains that he keeps getting out of jobs around the hut by going off with Jehanus' "volunteers".

she is still there, she is back at the fort, not with the legion, when the story goes back that way we can dig more into her part of the plot.

Why don't we change Joneus to Grassus. Bump him off as there are too many characters now. Besides, he was such a mean bastard that we could have Parmenion wandering whether he was killed because he upset someone, or stumbled upon a spy.

If it's the middle of the night tents would have been erected. I read Parm's post as meaning that Parmenion was back with his men, who would have set up the standard marching camp while waiting for him - something that was always done. And who said the sentry was on a horse? I don't see that in Parm's post.

I didnt but neither would the sentry have been in a tent, i envisage him on horse back thats all. but either way who would be running out of a tent?
