he is on a hill in the direct marching line of the attacking force, he is setting a defence , fortifications, ballista etc.. and waiting for 2 spanish legions to arrive, they will fight offthe attackers or at least hold the until rome has organised other legions parmenion is attacking from the rear and disrutping supplies, back at the fort cntius is helping to uncover the spies and the overall plot.

Oh, Parm! Would you like to do some editing? One post just after Ankhsy's that doesn't follow on, and your last one doesn't seem to me to make sense - perhaps you meant something other than "might"?
Cheers

No he hadn't, and yes you are. It must be old age creepingup on you - you've had a senior moment on your birthday!
Cantius isn't back yet, and Pullo is supposed to be looking for him to give him Simonius' orders to find the missing Spanish legions and bring them to help defeat the rebels.
What say we have Simonius' own men smash the rebels against their fortifications _without_ any help, and then march out to find the Spaniards who have been misled by a commander who supports the rebels?

i like that, we need to come up with an idea how this will happen. Maybe we strengthen parmenion, who attacks the rear and makes it seem like numerous legions attacking from the rear?

Sounds good! Parmenion can have the villagers' Legion with him, unless anyone can remember where else they're supposed to be at the moment.

we could have parmenion fetch them from the fort, or send a messenger and meet them half way and then attack the rear, use the local legion to confuse the enemy by suing their own language to spread panic???

I no longer have the foggiest idea what is supposed to be going on. How many different directions is Parmenion going in, on how many different missions? I won't be contributing again till I can follow the current plot - and I suggested it!

john...i thought we were going to send men (messengers) out to parmenion and back to the village cohort, get them to meet up and attack the rear of the enemys camp. the only bit that confuses me is ben seems to think parmenions in the camp leaving to go get himslef...we need to either get him to change his post or ignore it??
or have i lost the plot?

I think thats a nice end to chapter 16...thoughts??
So where do we go for chapter 17? back to the fort? for the arrival of the message? to parmenion? to pullo looking for the spanish legions?
Me i think we do a small time jump and have parmenion thinking back to the arrival of the orders while he waits for the legion from the fort...due to arrive shortly?/

Just want to say, sorry its taken me so long with the compilation, I will go to end chapter 16 with it now ok. Obviously my own writting and reading have taken alot of time and some of you may know about the 'Elvis' thing. Been rehearsing and recording songs and stuff so thats taken lots of time up, plus work is making me tired in the evenings so its hard to find motivation.
Like I say I shall go to end chapter 16 with this, I have a couple more chapters to go.
Thanks G

I have to go back and re-read it. I've forgotten what we did before.
Okay, I've re-read it, I'm with Parm. Let's go straight into Pullo finding the Spanish legions, who'd been sent to the wrong rendezvous point by a mysterious fake orders (or something like that) and they are only two marching days away. Hope about the Spanish come up behind the rebels?

but is that too easy...with the spanish legions we have an easy win, but if we go to Parmenion and the auxilary legion its a small force with a very risky attack on the unprotected rear...
I was more for there being a follow up issue with pullo getting executed when he reveals his identity becasue the emperors son has taken over the spanish legions and was going to attack Simonius...
Thoughts?? too much?? too complicated??

I think.... How about: Pullo finds the Spanish legions and directs them toward Simonius, not knowing that they've been taken over by traitors. He's left in ignorance as a useful guide, but in talking to the legionaries he makes them want to _help_ Simonius - that should create chaos when the traitors try to get them to attack him! Meanwhile, back at the village, a traitor is unmasked and the new auxiliary legion discovers that the Emperor's son wants to enslave all Gauls. This gets them rather worked up so Jehanus decides to take it on a long march to look for Simonius and help him against the traitors. They arrive just as some of the Spanish have decided to refuse an order to attack Simonius, and come up behind the rebels that we already have about to attack him.
So the result is the "mother of all battles": Simonius defending against a rebel attack on his fortifications; some Spanish joining in that attack; other Spanish refusing to join in and fighting against them; the village legion comes up behind the first lot of rebels and grinds them against Simonius' strongpoint; Simonius sorties and finishes them off. At the end, the loyal Spaniards have defeated the traitorous Spaniards and captured their leaders - among whom is "guess who" disguised as a Tribune in one of the Spanish Legions whose Legate is one of his own supporters.
Simonius returns to Rome, camps outside the city and sends word to the Emperor that the rebellion is crushed and he has some loyal Gauls to thank for it. Whether the son is killed trying to escape or executed by the Emperor is up to you lot!
Cheers
