I was in the middle of a Judaean attack, only to find that pages 249 to 280 are missing in my book. Instead I get a second chance to read pages 217 to 248. Bought it from play.com, so I guess returning it would be a hassle.

Can someone provide a synopsis of what I'm missing out on?

hi mate try either http://www.hodderheadline.co.uk/index.asp?url=contactus.asp and see if headline will replace it or you may have to go back to play.

Welcome Rottweiler, and apologies for the printing problems. There have been more than a few of these and my agent is taking the matter up with Headline. In the meantime you should be able to contact Play.com and ask them for a replacement. Or send it to headline and they will replace it. Not the best place to miss a few chapters though.

How is it that these pages can go missing in so many books? Do pages get stuck in the printing machine and so the compilation goes awry, or do they just not get printed?

Ah but if theres some out there, funnily enough they do become collectable as they should have been caught.

Isn't it funny how faulty products become collector's items...a bit like stamps.

ive not found it the case in modern books, people tend to prefer perfection/ mint copies rather than oddities, they do like rare limiteds etc..but not faulty...

No, I wouldn't collect any faulty books. I like mine in pristine condition, limited or otherwise.

thanks for the replies. I was in cold turkey for my initial post. I'll get a replacement and find out what happens. I suppose the one positive is that I've started my robert fisk bible-sized book in the interim.

Ankhsy, I'm not sure about your value idea. I wouldn't fancy going in front of the Dragons Den to present this as an investment opportunity.

Now why didn't I think of that?!

You really don't think they'd like it, Cave?

I also seem to have the problem with pages 249 to 280, I contacted Hodder who have responded quickly and offered to send me a new book, however the book is "temporarily out of stock" I have now been waiting a week, very disapointing.

Hi Compo, you are not the first with this problem. Seems that a bad batch got through the printers. The retailers and Headline have proved to be pretty good at sorting people out with puckah copies, so don't worry, you'll get yours. Question is, will Cato and Macro get theirs?

I heard that Macro sent Cato back to the market to swap his and the lad brought back three sissy poetry books instead.

I've now been waiting 5 weeks for the "Headline" relief column to turn up with a replacement book, is this typical of headlines customer service or is this just an unlucky one off?

Thats a bit of a bummer Compo, i would do as Parm suggests, give Headline hassle as they should be much better than that!

PM/email me the details and I'll see if there's anything I can do. This is just not acceptable.
