Alex, Have you ever done a live Q&A on this Forum? I can't recall one.
Not sure how you'd cope with time delays between questions and answers, but that's not insurmountable.
Would you consider this?

I think you might have to lay some ground rules mate, you might get some rather bizarre questions, no names mentioned....hehe

OK shall we set one up?
Suggest an hour, preferably a lunch time at the back end of next week, but please indicate availability.
Technically, what do you recommend for ground rules? We get some funny threads in here as two people write simultaneously.
Suggested subject matters:
A Thousand Suns Last Light Authorship in general: Writing styles, inspiration, muses, processes, relationship with publishers, editors etc. Fraternal rivalry/competition... and anything else that comes up.

sounds reasonable.
How about an MSN hook up? And then I can cut and paste the exchange into this thread. I've done MSN interview's in the past and they tend to be a lot of fun....since they really are 'live' and unrehearsed....and you're more likely to get a scoop out of me, than if I have the time to compose a response. ;-)

| MSN does voice coms as well as skype. But text would be better since I can paste the transcript here on the forum. |

MSN hook up sounds great. I've personally never done one and don't know how - could you please advise? |

You'll need to set up a hotmail account first, if you dont already have one.
Then if we get everyone who's interested in taking part to post their hotmail address here, we'll agree a time. And then we all go online at the appointed time, I'll invite everyone from the forum I can see online, and off we go. |

A fair point Parm. There may be quite a few people who can't participate during work hours. Might be worth a straw poll on who is interested and offer two times...a work-time slot, and an outside work-time slot.
Or hell...I'll just do both :-) |

Whoa!! Getting way too technical. Setting up a hotmail account? What's that mean?
Best to keep it simple - can't we just have an open file that we can write to on this forum?

No dead easy. Shoot..if a moron like me can do it...?
1. goto www.hotmail.com 2. click on the 'Sign Up!' button. 3. follow instructions. 4. Download MSN chat. 5. post your hotmail account name here (eg: JoeBloggs@hotmail.co.uk)
Aside from the Q&A, it might be nice for us all to share MSN details, and chat through the day. And if you want a little privacy, you can always logout. I know there's a few homeworkers here on the forum. Can get a little lonely (which is why I go write in Starbucks two or three days a week)

I've just done it. Is it a good idea to post our hotmail accounts for all and sundry to see? Is there a way of getting it to bona fide interested memebers without scammers coming along and harvesting email names?

Good idea.
BTW, you do need a hotmail or MSN account to use MSN chat.

okay, all those who want to hook up via MSN, send me a private message with your hotmail details. I'll then email the details of everyone who contacted me...to everyone who has contacted me. That way we all privately get each others details.
As regards a Q&A, we could arrange to all be online say...monday morning, and/or Sunday evening...those are usually good times for me. |

I'm sulking now. This was my idea and I can't play! Please post the script on this Forum so I can see it.
A few questions from me, if someone would kindly ask them: Suns 1. Regarding last minute rearguard actions from a demoralised German army. Suns had acts of great heroism from a select bunch, but was this based on anything in particular? 2. You consciously did not expand many of the main characters e.g what was Hauser's background? What was his motivation? Why did he show the fanaticism to be committted to the end, then have a change of heart? Why the emphasis on story over characterisation? 3. Why was New York the scene for the bombing? London was much more realistic. (Please don't say this was to increase US sales of the book!) 4. Have you considered doing a prequel centred around Max Kleinman?
Last Light 5. Second novel is contemporary. Are you deliberately keeping away from the more historical subject matter Simon produces? 6. From the blurb, the lead character seems much more rounded than Chris from Suns. Which one of them is the subconsciously autobiographical Alex Scarrow?
General 7. Any sibling rivalry? 8. Simon has indicated that 'Scarrow' and not Eagle is now the brand. How do you feel about this? 9. Who do you bounce ideas off? I suspect you're a lone wolf, are you?
Tongue in cheek 10. Do you write in Times New Roman?

Hi Deva, I've started a new thread, and answered your (very good) questions.
Meanwhile, if anyone wants to do a MSN chatroom session, either with me, or perhaps Simon and I, I'm sure we can arrange something. Just need hotmail account details PM to me, and then we can arrange a suitable time. |
